On average, almost 250 resumes land on the HR and recruiters desk. It could be a daunting task to go through each and every resume and shortlisting the best ones. Google gets a staggering amount of 6 million applicants every year!!!! And to even have a shot at an interview, you have to pass the 6-second test. This is what the competition level is. - By the end of 2012, there were 3.6 million job openings. The interesting fact is that around 80% of open jobs are seldom advertised.
- The average number of people who apply for any given job is 118. Only 20% of them get a call for an interview.
- Most companies are now using talent-management software to screen resumes, weeding out up to 50% of applications even before anyone ever gets a chance to look at it.
- What do employees look for before making an offer? About 36% look for multitasking skills; 31% look for initiative; 21% look for creative thinking; and 12% look for something else in the candidate.
- More than half (56%) of all employers reported that a candidate rejected their job offer in 2012.

- Tailor your resume to every position.
- Include keywords pertaining to job requirements.
- Don’t just describe your skills them.
- Include soft skills.
- Quantify your accomplishments.
- Enhance your vocabulary with powerful verbs.
- Balance confidence with modesty.
